Connect your Ledger Nano S or Nano X to your computer using the supplied USB cable.
Press the button on the side of the device until the Ledger logo appears to turn it on.
Note: If you keep pressing the button, you will access the Bootloader menu. You need to power off the device and restart it.
Open the Ledger Live application on your computer or mobile device.
Follow the on-screen instructions in Ledger Live to set up your device as a new device.
Choose a 4-8 digit PIN code to secure your device. An 8-digit PIN offers optimal security.
Write down the 24-word recovery phrase displayed on your device's screen. This is the only backup of your private keys.
Confirm your recovery phrase by selecting the words in the correct order.
Your device is now set up and ready to use. You can access the dashboard to install apps and manage your crypto assets.
Important Security Tips:
Never use a device supplied with a pre-set PIN code or recovery phrase.
Store your recovery phrase securely, as anyone with access to it can access your funds.
Ledger does not keep a backup of your recovery phrase. You are solely responsible for safeguarding it.
Contact Ledger support if you have any doubts about the security of your device.
Here are the key steps to set up your Ledger Nano S for the first time:
Connect your Ledger Nano S to your computer using the supplied USB cable.
Press the right or left button until "Set up as new device" is displayed.
Press both buttons simultaneously to select this option.
"Choose PIN code" will be displayed on your device. Press both buttons to confirm.
Use the buttons to select each digit of your 4-8 digit PIN code. Press both buttons to enter each digit.
Select the checkmark icon and press both buttons to confirm your PIN code.
Confirm your PIN code by entering it again.
Your device will now display your 24-word recovery phrase one word at a time.
Write down each word in order on the recovery sheet provided in the box. This is the only backup of your private keys.
Press the right button to advance to the next word. Verify you have written each word correctly.
Once all 24 words are written down, press both buttons to confirm your recovery phrase.
Select the requested words in order by navigating with the buttons and pressing both to validate each one.
Your device will display "Processing" and then "Your device is now ready".
Press both buttons to access the Dashboard where you can install apps and manage your crypto.
Securely store your recovery phrase. Anyone with access to it can access your funds.
Never share your PIN code or recovery phrase with anyone, including Ledger support.
